DOAU!

August 31, 2005

I was thinking that since the DOAU WCG is gonna start soon, I might as well start training before the guys give me the keys to the Xbox rooms.

My choice of character: Ayane

Good damage, evasive, and I’m familiar with her tricks and stuffs (mostly thanks to John for sparring with me hardcore when we first got DOA3…he uses Ayane :p).

Now that I got her BnB juggle right, and the mind games between kicks, throws and attacks, it’s time to learn how to setup with her somersult evades, her backfacing stunts and the u+P ‘evasion’

Right now I’m checking out DOAcentral.com to see if I can find anything interesting about Ayane.

DOTA >> NP rolls on undefeated!

August 31, 2005

Today was the end of the Uni/Poly/JC diversion of DOTA WCG, and as most expected since the first day, Ngee Ann won. I was only there for a match where NP faces NTU and I’ll heard news (thanks to Yee Howe) on the previous round between them and my school NYP.

NYP VS NP
NYP:
Slitherine Guard (slada)
Bone Clinkz (bf)
Luna Moonfang (luna)
Necrolyte
Faceless Void

NP:
Centuar Warchief (Centuar)
Morphling
Omniknight (omni)
Death Prophet
(can’t remember)

The outcome can already be predicted from the lineup. NYP is probably planning to break NP midgame, but…well, I heard bf was laning with death prophet or something and couldn’t break her. Cooperation was also very scarce on the NYP team, so they got defeated in like…30 minutes flat?

NP vs NTU
NP:
Omniknight
Morphling
Medusa
Slitherine Guard
Necrolyte

NTU:
Faceless Void
Queen of Pain (qop)
Rogueknight (sven)
Centuar Warchief (centuar)
Death Prophet

The match was pretty even at the start, with the queen of pain pwning slada like no one’s business (sometimes with the help of Centuar), but nearing mid game, the qop…well…let’s just say that she mostly spend her time overlooking her teammates. NP’s Medusa and Omniknight seemed like…lovers it seemed, following each other everywhere they go. NTU was doing pretty well, but their Faceless is one of the problems they had. I don’t know why, but the Faceless was pretty inactive throughout the match. I only got the see him when they are pushing.

NTU tried a 5 man push twice and they are the one who broke into NP’s base first, but from there, they could not proceed. Twice they pushed, twice they failed, and they failed horribly, lasting only a mere 10 seconds before they all died. Second time was the same. NP’s pushes were much better with the omniknight repelling the medusa and healing everyone else, and the medusa who has a BKB on her hands.

It was a pretty entertaining match though. Too bad I didn’t get to see the last match between NP and TP.

Busy-ness

August 29, 2005

Just realized by typing the topic that if you want to add a ‘ness’ behind busy and change the y to i, you’ll get ‘business’….wierd…

Anyway, things are rushing at a rapid rate now, so I haven’t been able to update much. I still attend Bugis every Saturday though, but my game time is very compact.

Presentation on last Friday was pretty interesting. Almost everyone had an interesting topic, and almost everyone overcame their stage fright and went on and on about their topic. Mine was a bit overdramatic, and my goal was to create disbelief in everyone. Did I succeed? Not really. I was suppose to remain serious and giving a bit a smirk here and there, but the class laughed so hard, I couldn’t resist. That’s the bad part: If I went on laughing with them, no one would take my speech seriously enough to remember them, but overall it went fine. The interactions were quite fine. Too bad it only lasted 3 mins, I could’ve gone on for 10…lol…

I joined the new SK round and I must admit, it is the most addictive round I’ve played for some unknown reason. It feels like…Everquest. It doesn’t look nice to play, looks simple and boring but in reality, it’s freaking…crack. I’ve never been able to wake myself up at the time I wanted to for a looooong time, about 2 or so years in fact. Not even WoW or CoH can compare to this.

John and Trev were SL and VSL respectively in my sector. I feel that they are doing a pretty nice job. Me? I’m doing fine except for the fact that I did not pump probes from the start. How the fuck could I forget that in Game 6, probes were my best tool for almost everything. Have no probes sucks, because probes can help you do all kinds of fantastic stuffs.

I need some sleep for another presentation tmr, so that will be all.

CVS saturday!

August 28, 2005

Well…

Things go very unexpected today. My N-Groove Iori/Kim/Hibiki team did badly once again. Perhaps I’m too used to training against computer…so much that my Iori and Kim take things for granted, and ended up getting punished badly against human players. In fact, I’ve done so badly that my K-Groove Kyo/Rock/Hibiki did considerably better. Perhaps it’s time to switch? Well, I’ll just train that K-Groove team more and practice JDs until then. I noticed that JDing computer is pretty hard compared to humans.

This round, I must say my Hibiki did well…just a few miscalculations here and there on her blackout, but her counter xx super success vs failure rate increased and I managed to land Deadly Raves for Rock and her. I have been playing about her dodge (Narrow Escape) variations, inspired by Otaku, a K-Groove jap player. He uses KKK xx b+K xx HP>> anything. It DID caused some frustration to the other player, and it looks…nice to see :P

So until the next saturday, I’ll be training on my K-Groove team.

Tekken 5

August 23, 2005

When I first saw Tekken 5 and their ugly juggles, I thought ‘hey, this look like a retarded and simply game’. All the one hit one hit pokes…I mean, it can’t be that hard compared to jugging using Hayate or Ayane in DOA right?

Damn, I was so fucking wrong.

When I first got Tekken, my first thought was ‘alright, let’s go master a character. I opened the move list and was astounded. I don’t even know what string to enter. There is hardly any counter holds or parries, tons of fucking stances and…yeah, one can easily tell this is not an easy game to pick up and go.

But after a few days of practicing with Ling Xiaoyu (prolly one of the mid-difficulty characters out there), juggling becomes pretty easy to do, but the hard part is to lift. I haven’t played in arcades to see how well people block, but the AI at hard difficulty is eating up all my lifts. It seemed that blocking is possible WITHIN most strings, unlike DOA, where only a few strings allow blocks at the last hit. Tekken, from what I’ve seen so far, isn’t a ‘prediction’ game like DOA. It’s more like waiting of the other side to make mistakes so that you can lift him, juggle and dish out damage. At least DOA has counters to really punish those who are predictable, but for Tekken, the damage you dish out is highly dependent on how skilful you lift and juggle.

Well, I’m off for more Tekken action. Till some other time.

Update

August 19, 2005

Just to start of with a little update. All posts regarding CVS2 and Bugis have been transferred to another blog as promised. The posts can be found at http://fay-cancel.blogspot.com. I’m seperating my arcading posts from here cus I doubt everyone would like to see them anyway.

So anyway, it seemed that I have been selected for the WCG trials for NYP (Dead or Alive Ultimate). Apparently there had been some arguements on the DOTA side of the team. It seemed that there have been unfair matches and unwanted rematches etc etc, which most of us around the campus knows that the DOTA matches might have been rigged, so they are dealing with it right now, although I think that it would be a little too late for that. Other than the DOTA side, everything seemed to to be fine.

YC showed us, not the first time, his Nintendo DS, but it was the first time he showed us its amazing features. There are crazy stuffs games have with the voice recognition and touch screen, some of which caught my attention. I can imagine so many fun stuffs the DS can do. So many that I can’t believe I overlooked that. I have a darn tall order of To-Buy stuffs now with the DS included in the list.

-Shiro MP3 player
-GeForce 6800 Ultra gfx card
-Nintendo DS
-Games for Nintendo DS
-Xbox 360
-160 GB External HDD
-Battlefield 2
-City of Villains
-D&D v3.5 DMG
-Waterdeep source book

Fuck it, all these things are going to cost me a hell of a bomb…

I might take up a job in Cristofori and teach music to children. That way I can have some extra money for myself to spent, enjoy the work there (hopefully) and practice my stuffs. Bad thing is that the minimum time I have to stay there is a full year, so that requires some serious consideration.

Vanguard News: Rogues

August 16, 2005

http://www.thesafehouse.org/viewtopic.php?topic=21168
DM: “I wanted the rogue to be stealthy. Stealth will play a major role for a rogue.” Darrin said, using the word he purports not to like, “I’m totally excited about stalking and stealthing so far.” He sees rogues as the stealthy fighter who will be able to exploit “weaknesses” and “states” in their opponents which will naturally happen during combat. An example of a “state” is being in “mid-cast” or in the middle of casting a spell. The rogue will essentially be “stalking” their opponent, learning their weak spots and then, say, jumping in at the right time for a massive attack. During the time they are stalking their prey they will be building up a damage multiplier. This will prevent them from losing dps while stalking. The rogue will also have the ability to distract an NPC during combat and then go back into stealth mode after performing an attack.– IF there is at least one other person in the party. When solo fighting, the rogue will be able to stealth but then won’t be able to go back into stealth mode during the rest of the combat. “

Sounds like a pretty interesting concept, but I’m having doubts to whether if it really works in game…

Big change soon

August 14, 2005

After reviewing my blog and because of the excess CVS2 posts, I decided to move them to a different blog once I have the time. I don’t want a blog about my rantings to become a blog all about CVS2, so I guess it should be a category of its own.

CVS2 again

August 14, 2005

Today John, yz and lifong(!) was with me. This will be my shortest report ever mainly because there isn’t anything really nice. I saw the A-Sak/Bison/R-2 Blanka guy again (aka Mr. Clappy Hand or something like that) and I find him the best and most consistant shoshosho/paint the fence combo-er ever.

The day was mostly spent slacking around, LANing here and there, walking around the arcade. As far as CVS2 is concerned, there isn’t anything interesting other than the K-Zangief/Geese/(can’t remember) user that we saw when we first got to the arcade. That guy’s K-Groove was pretty good…well, pretty good as in he can JD rather consistantly at times when predicting for JD is open.

Other than him, I got nothing else to comment other than the fact that his Zangief did the QCF, QCF+K super JUST when Bison Psycho Crusher-ed almost hit him. At least now I know how Zangief in K-Groove works like. JD jumpins > PPP. Jumpin JD >HK. Enemy Jumping > QCF, QCF super. Just by doing this plus the basic K-Groove stuffs, plus the fact that Zangief has high damage, one can imagine the damage caused all because the K-groove user timed his block right.

—peace out—
