Happy Chinese New Year everyone! I’m going to revamp this blog’s looks in a month or so’s time so look out for it
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!!
January 29, 2006TEH HISTORY!!!
January 26, 2006Okay, let’s go through a bit of history 6+ months ago…cuz I’m bored atm and felt like recounting.
TEH HISTORY
When I first started competetive gaming on fighting games, CVS2 was the second (first was DOA3) to get me hook because of its diverse combinations of 6 Grooves, fuckload of characters and Hibiki. Hibiki was probably the character that got me hooked after spamming Beckoning Slashes xx Super accidentally against my friends on the PS2 pad. Okay that’s years ago before I got my PS2.
Anyway, about selecting grooves, it wasn’t really very hard. I hated dash so C, A and P grooves are out of the way. S groove is…just shitty. K wasn’t really fun when I started because of my crappy reflexes and lack of roll makes me think that it’s not a great groove. So all I have left is N-Groove, which I think is the best groove for me because it is run, roll and rushdown. That time I didn’t know wtf is Roll Cancel (RC) yet.
I remember fighting with a scrub player. I was losing, of course, because I was new to arcade sticks. But what really got me hooked was anticipating his attack, releasing Raging Storm level 3 at the right time and killing his first character. I felt fucking high seriously lol. Of course, nowadays, this is pretty common sight -.-; but yeah, that’s what me wanna play more.
The Beginning…N-Iori/Hibiki/R-2 Rock
This was my very first team when I entered the the arcade grounds. Capcom characters, imho, is very boring to play so I stuck with SNK characters, which I had less experience playing compared to Capcom characters. Probably the only time I touched SNK characters was KOF2001 on my PC years ago and lost the disc in the process.
At this point of time, my Hibiki was probably the best and I think this was the time I started turtle Hibiki which involves only pokes and nothing fanciful. My Iori was pretty random; sometimes he owns, sometimes he sucks. I think Rock was my worse, but for some reason I enjoyed playing him, so I stuck with him.
The First Changes…
After that, I tried all kinds of combinations I can’t be bothered to remember. Around this period of time I took up Cammy and Kyo. I dropped Kyo because I wasn’t too used to his attacks compared to Iori at that time. Cammy was just like my Iori; randomly good and crap, but I must admit she’s a tough one, definately top-tier. Oh yeah, somewhere around here I vowed some crap never to use Blanka in arcade. Around this time I was exposed to the lameness of characters like Blanka and Sagat. I think I picked up Kim too…but I’m rather sure it’s somewhere after I picked Cammy and Kyo.
Rock, the weak one?
Somehow, I figured that my Rock is terribly weak and decided to sub him. After losing a few more times, I realized how important Rock is to my team because of his counters and raging storm super that can change the tide of battle. Around this time, I kept cursing at myself for forgetting that Rock has this thing called ‘counters’. Oh, and I hadn’t started learning 360 yet. Rock went back to my team after awhile
Your Roll Sucks! N-Iori/Kim/R2-Hibiki
Then came the problem. I noticed that Rock’s roll is pathetic. Cammy is worse. In fact it was so bad I can’t even roll out of corners after being pressured.
“Cammy has the worst roll I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been zoned into oblivion because there is no other way to catch your opponent off guard in N-Groove other than roll cancelling (which cammy doesn’t need) and rolling itself. Her roll is slow like…crap. I give it that she has good all around game but N-Groove doesn’t give her what she needs to pwn the other side.” — Long lost post in a lost blog.
Hibiki is no different, and I can’t RC consistantly for them. I *think* it was this time Kim came in and Rock went out again. I tried to use Cammy without roll. At this point of time, Kim was pretty much my best character, followed by Iori (who is still swaying from sucky-ness and uberleetness)…then what of Hibiki?
Anyway, this team was stuck to me for a damn long time…
Hibiki, the weakest link?
I remember heavily considering removing Hibiki from my list. But what then? Who can replace Hibiki? I thought of Cammy but she is a weak R2 imo. I decided that I can’t really replace Hibiki…so I’m going to stick with that old team for awhile. Another problem was Kim is that he can’t seem to win god-tiered opponents.
“My team was the same as last week’s, Iori/Kim (or Cammy)/R-2 Hibiki. Iori did exceptionally well, most of the time taking out his R-2 Blanka by himself. So much for RC electric…he got raped by RC rekka. What they said is true, practice RC and you’ll never regret it.Mostly what the problem is with my lineup now is Kim. Kim just can’t own top tiered characters mainly because he relies on rolls too much. Maybe I should place Cammy back and see what happens if I try to roll cancel with her.” — Long lost post in a lost blog.
Well, the practice didn’t come with Cammy and I stuck to this team. Oh, and at this point of time my hibiki is training on counter xx blackout. After training it, my hibiki is beginning to raise back.
Time to change Groove =/
There was this month I was really frustrated because I kept losing and finally decided to change. This was taken from a lost post:
“I love N-Groove for many reasons, but unfortunately, it isn’t really working out for me. Only my Hibiki is good enough for it. Other characters that are good in N-Groove like Iori and Vice I’ve tried, but it didn’t go well. Iori demands speed in his commands (I really mean speed) and his scum gale setups…well, I just can’t do them well. It’s hard to catch people with scum gale. Bleh, I guess I’m not a setup player like Buktooth is. No wonder his Iori owns so much. Iori is a crazy setup character.
So it goes two ways, either I pick up A-Groove (CC) or K-Groove (JD).
If I picked A-Groove, I would keep roll. I love roll a lot, and roll allows me to roll cancel (which I hadn’t mastered). Switch to A-Groove means that I have to learn everything about CC (ouch!) and continue learning how to RC. Plus, I have to abandon almost everything I’ve learnt about rushdown in N-Groove because A-Groove isn’t a rushdown groove. Instead, it’s a bit to the turtle side. In addition to that, I have to abandon Hibiki until I learnt a good CC for her. The current one in my mind (the one I see in arcades) suck. And if I DO pick up Hibiki for A groove, all my practice for counter > super would more or less be voided.
If I were to pick up A-Groove, my the choice of characters I would play is pretty big. I can train Kim, Guile, Sakura, M.Bision, Blanka and Todo and MAYBE Akuma. The most likely lineup in the end would most probably be Kim, Sakura and M.Bision/Todo at the end of the day. All these characters I have almost no experience in so it’ll be pretty hard to pick up A-groove.
If I were to pick up K-Groove, my choice of characters are pretty obvious. I can play Rock, Hibiki, Kyo, Cammy and heck I can even pick up Nakoruru if I feel crazy. K-groove seemed like the choice for me since I have played all these characters before. However, K-Groove doesn’t have rolls. On the bright side, I don’t have to practice roll cancels. Instead ‘I’ll have to learn how to use JD”
I stuck to my N-Groove team while training A-Groove and K-Groove. A-Groove is just no working out at all. Due to OTK’s influence, I picked up K-Kyo/Rock/R-2 Hibiki and took it to the arcade as my substitude team. At first, they didn’t work out all that well, but one day my K-groove team did exceptionally well. It’s like my standard for my N-groove team has a gradient of 0 while my K-groove standard goes pretty steep after that short time. John just told me to fuck N and take K. So…yeah I kinda agree. From that day, I started to use less and less N as K begins to pick up.
RC Electric?! RC rekka for joo!!
I doubt I got the chronological order right for the last few subtitles but anyway, around that time I started learning RC. I had my Iori do rekka 10 times straight per side at home while setting Ryu to throw hadokens at him. I trained RC like mad. At this point of time, my RC skills are at its peak. Only problem is that the only thing I can RC is Iori’s rekka. For some odd reason I can’t seem to do the same for Hibiki’s Beckoning Slash. I remember that one night my Iori was the best Iori I’ve played, RCing rekka through some Blanka’s RC electric.
No really, fuck N groove
“Things go very unexpected today. My N-Groove Iori/Kim/Hibiki team did badly once again. Perhaps I’m too used to training against computer…so much that my Iori and Kim take things for granted, and ended up getting punished badly against human players. In fact, I’ve done so badly that my K-Groove Kyo/Rock/Hibiki did considerably better. Perhaps it’s time to switch? Well, I’ll just train that K-Groove team more and practice JDs until then. I noticed that JDing computer is pretty hard compared to humans.”
And yep, I changed groove once and for all. K-groove offcially became my best groove.
Journey of a K-groover…K-Kyo/Rock/R-2 Hibiki
There isn’t really much to say really. I picked tricks for Kyo and Hibiki faster than my Iori. My JD skill just improves every week. However, my ‘mind game’ isn’t that strong yet compared to others. Okay, but what about Rock?
There was this time I subbed by Rock for K-Vega. Vega is hella boring to play with the com, but he’s just so fun to play against PC. You just plain non-stop harrass them. Great jump speed, Great WALKING speed, great range, air throw…hell I couldn’t ask for more. But he dies quickly when pressured. Why too quickly. And there are certain character he can’t bypass that my Rock can. So Vega, after a couple of week, got removed and I put Rock back.
whiff attack into 360!
Okay, after learning tricks for Hibiki and Kyo, I decided to make full use of his 360 throw. It’s really deadly…360xxsuper is just like Hibiki’s counterxxsuper and Kyo’s REDxxsuper. It’s FREE super for just ONE and you don’t need super reflexes to know if the opponent ‘blocked’ your lks before supering. My Rock got really good after that training. Finally, Rock is owning.
Mind Games…
After training less and less against the AI, I learnt the usual human reactions in fighting games. There, I gave my Kyo the gift of ‘mind games’. run, skit, throw/ rekka 2/ run, skit, lk/ rekka 1 halfway xx throw/ c.lk x2 xx bdp+lk…god… so many…
Right now I’m giving Hibiki the gift of mind gaming =). She’ll get free supers once she can master it.
And that’s the end of the history…it will get edited sometime I think…
And that’s the end…
Now for some lookback at my old posts for memories link to today…
“Next practice will be Buktooth’s variation of Hibiki’s ‘Going my Way’ super which has a pretty good ending to it. I’ve tried it a bit here and there…kept screwing up with the c.HK xx QCB+HP part…”
Can do it with my eyes closed now. Just trying to put in c.lk x2 before the super now
“I see the usual A-Groove team consisting of Blanka, M-Bison (saw BAS’ CC done over and over again), a bit of Sakura (no shoshosho today however), Guile and Kim.”
Lol I can name the Guile and Kim user if I knew their names. Their Sakura can’t do shoshosho =p
“N-Kyo, Cammy, R2 Hibiki…”
Wow, I can’t remember using them together…I must be crazy lol. They are like 5 times better on K-groove now :p
” I can’t remember his character lineup…something like Sagat, Akuma, R2-Blanka. I lost a bit, mainly because I was trying to finish the match with a ‘bang’. Didn’t really work lol. Guess I learnt my lesson with a couple of 50c. “
Must’ve been blackout super. I think I overdid it in Bugis though. Now I hardly ever worked because people there are aware of the danger… bah =(
“As for Hibiki, things went exceptionally well for most of the matches except for the ones with Bison. Did he counter xx blackout super like 4 times, causing him to turtle.”
Bah, I DID overdo it =/
“Speaking of Chun-Li, I saw this guy crazy enough to go for P-groove. At first, when I saw him fight, I thought maybe he was just trying out P-groove just for the fun of it, like maybe he is a noob in that groove, but I was wrong. That guy parried not one, not two, but around ten or more parries in a single fight. “
If he’s the P-Chun guy I know now, I beat him before just a few weeks back. He’s still good though, he can read my mind like a book now that I use K-Groove and know exactly when I’m JDing. Beat him by reading him back. Was a nice fight.
” Hibiki is really pure suck against Bison like most people said. No gaps for Hibiki to punish (or at least I didn’t find one).”
No change there…I still think Hibiki sucks vs Bison
“His team was A-Honda/Rolento/R-2 M.Bision (if I’m not mistaken). Doesn’t matter what his R2 character is, the game usually ends at his Rolento. Now when I saw him pick E-Honda, I was pretty skeptical. I have heard how powerful E-Honda is, and I have heard of a particular notorious Japanese player who destroys everything just by RC all of E-Honda’s moves.”
He still hangs around, but he’s playing with Eagle now. THe Jap player mentioned is Mago I think. If I’m not wrong, this guy plays the most wicked Honda and Rolento. His Bison is among the better Bisons I’ve seen.
“I would love to pit my Hibiki against his Rolento but I’m not going to face his E.Honda with my current skills.”
My Kyo eats his Rolento now, but his Honda is still retardedly overpowered.
“I saw the A-Sak/Bison/R-2 Blanka guy again (aka Mr. Clappy Hand or something like that) and I find him the best and most consistant shoshosho/paint the fence combo-er ever. “
He no longer comes to play nowadays…everyone remembers Clappy Hands and his crazy ability to beat Shin Akuma with R1 Sakura. He is the best Sak/Bison/Blanka player I’ve ever seen.
“As far as CVS2 is concerned, there isn’t anything interesting other than the K-Zangief/Geese/(can’t remember) user that we saw when we first got to the arcade. That guy’s K-Groove was pretty good…well, pretty good as in he can JD rather consistantly at times when predicting for JD is open.”
The guy uses Zangief, Geese, Cammy, Kyo, Ryu. I eat all his characters except for Geese. He plays a good Geese. He gets frustrated easily irl though. And yes, my Kyo eats his

Yet another Bugis update!
January 24, 2006Yep here’s another day at Bugis. It’s espacially crowded that day, ’specially at the CVS2 side. I recognized lots of players there, the shotogan guy was pwning this A-Iori/Bison/Blanka guy that used to pwn me like hell. Well, he still pwns me like hell, but what’s strange is that I can beat the shotogan guy. Hmm…
Aside from my side teams, my K groove team was working pretty well that day. Kyo is on fire as usual as long as you give him 2-3 games warm up (lol used to be 10 games). My Rock was doing well, but not the way I wanted him to. He was countering moves very well that day, and managed to get a couple of shift->360 xx supers off, and also managed to get supers off at the right time. I dunno, but shifting that day was sooooo easy to pull off. Usually they’ll stick a foot in to interrupt it but that day they didn’t, which kinda surprised me. My Rock wasn’t THAT much a pressurer compared to my Kyo or Hibiki.
These days my Hibiki is really struggling for supers. It’s like I can’t even remember the last time I pulled off a nice super. I didn’t even do a complete super that day, so I have to make use of BnB during rage to take advantage of the 50% extra damage. I kinda find it funny when they turtle against my Hibiki at the corner at close range. Those guys are really asking for loads of trouble. If I can chain into super after dp+k that day (which I tried a lot…and for some reason failed), my Hibiki will have no problem eating those guys up as long as she is raged.
Anyway, that day was pretty funny. I see loads of extremely lucky/funny/cool things happening on my screen and the guy beside me. The guy beside me was the A-Groove Iori guy that used to beat the crap outta me with RC rekka. One event goes like this: His Bison activated CC and just when he gave a hard punch, shotagan-man’s Akuma unleased his level 3. Lol, I can never forget the guy’s expression and the way he pushed himself away from the arcade seat in disbelief. Another event happened like: His R2-Blanka is dying and so is shotogan-guy’s R2 Ryu. Blanka managed to hope onto Ryu’s corpse and started to RC electric. Ryu got chipped like crazy and have no meter for counter. However after the electric, Ryu was left with a pixel of health. It’s definately a pixel of health, anyone can see that on hit, blocked or not, will end Ryu’s health. Blanka immedately blanka balled, straighted into Ryu’s shoryuken. It’s really crazy, I mean, I dunno if it’s skill or luck.
For mine, there was this time I jumped towards this Akuma. Being cautious for his A-Groove, I didn’t attack him. Akuma turned on CC and…well squated with me. Everyone watching the match was like wondering what the hell is the Akuma and I doing, including the guy beside me. I was waiting for him to attack and so was he. Then I decided to take the first move and kicked him dead. It’s really funny.
The best moment for that day was my Kyo vs this guy’s R2-Blanka (I dunno which guy, they kept switching people inbetween fights). Blanka had like less than half health and my Kyo is almost dying. I managed, somehow, to get one beautiful set of R.E.D kicks into the corner and started to burn. Blanka bounced off my flames as intended and while he was falling, I released. Then to my horror, he didn’t die. I completely missed the 2nd part (and the most damaging) of my super. I was actually preparing to follow up with rekka after the super knowing that he wouldn’t die, but when I looked up, I realized that my super didn’t hit. Then I just went berserk. I was kinda lucky the blanka didn’t do electric because I continued pressuring, only a bit more berserk. Run, skit, throw, run, c.lk, bdp+k, run, skit, 2nd rekka, run skit, throw. and before I know it, Blanka is dead.
That round really got me hot and ACTUALLY left me fatigue. Goddamn that’s like one of the most exciting occurrances that happened to me in CVS2…
Then finally they got this guy to play me. I know him, but didn’t get to see him play much. He played C-Geese, Blanka, R2-Sagat…not a very nice sight to my K-groove team. That’s like 2 overpowered characters and one dangerous time bomb. It’s after playing with him I realized how dangerous Geese truely is. He’s a remote bomb which can choose to explode anytime he like and, if used correctly, planted at the right spot. Geese has a very good ground and air game. He can like throw projectiles in the air, has counters, good damage and hp, easy BnBs and good movesets. I need my Rock to be somewhat like him. I think Rock has much more potiential than Geese.
Until next time then…
GRATZ TO NSTK~~!!!
January 21, 2006Hope you guys beat the crap outta the NYP school team. And I pray that the organization wouldn’t be as bad as the WCG period.
Arcade…Reformat…Melty Blood
January 18, 2006Finally, the time has come for my computer to go for a clean. Waaay too many irritating popups and bubbles…it seemed that I’m reformating just to clear the ‘Your computer is infected!” popups instead of the virus.
I’m opening myself to a variety of arcade games for this month. CVS2 is still fine and I still play quite a lot of it. It’s fun when you know there is a chance to beat those people in Bugis. Melty Blood was pretty fun in Bugis. The standard in Bugis is pretty good, but I estimate my win:loss ration to be around 2:1 or better.
DrumManiaV was already okay for me. At least, I am one step below YH. Seemed that every music game I’m one step behind him lol. I’m still very far in EZ2DJ though. The key placings were not friendly to me, but it’s doable with some practice.
Seemed that I’m about to spend like about more money in Bugis lol. Usually though, Melty blood takes me 50c to $1. The Bugis guys aren’t as tough. Or myself I am tough enough to play them lol, I don’t know.
It’s about time I complete my Hibiki guide and maybe start with a Melty Blood one. Lol, I’m probably the ONLY casual decent Kyo, Rock or Hibiki user in Bugis right now. It still has it’s weakness though. I have some trouble dealing with characters like Sagat, RC Iori, and wtf Nakoruru =/
MELTY BLOOD!!
