DDO, Oblivion, KH2, CoV, Civ 4…damn life owns!

March 28, 2006

So little time to update these past days, too much time spent for the last one or two weeks playing Dungeon and Dragons Online, hosting DnD sessions and watching movies. So far the game has been pretty good, good enough to leave me pretty addicted. Only my only complaint about this game is that it is so far from a complete game.

I find the voice chat and the combat rather cool, and not forgetting the awesome dungeon design and narration. Sure, there are crappy dungeons, but some are just awesome. However, some classes really needs fixes, and the lack of druid and monk AND cleric domains kinda makes the game feel shallow. Right now there’s not even gnomes, half elves or half orcs. Spells are also buggy like lightning bolt only hitting a single target when it should’ve been vector based etc. Good spells like obscuring mist, glitterdust and hypnotic pattern are also avoided due to the horrible blinding effect it give you in real life.

Right now, I’m at level 7 Bard and still enjoying him so far. As far as I’m concerned, for those interested in know what class is useful, here’s some info. Clerics, Rogues, 1 Spellcaster and 1 Fighter (not ranger), is the prerequsite of a good party. The rest is up to you =)

Civilization 4 is fucking amazing. Every stretegy gamer should really play it. It is a ultimate empire-creation game so far. It is really hard to describe the game in detail…there is just soooo much to explain. Other RTS out there are a huge version of scissors paper stone. I’d probably blame Age of Mythology for that.

Hills have Eyes is a fucking retarded show. Don’t watch it for the scare…it’s pretty hilarious imho, esp towards the ending.

V for Vendetta is a FANTASTIC show. DC comics actually wrote that? I’m pretty surprised. The show is really really good. V is truely a master terrorist.

Cry_Wolf is damn good. Everything was so plain…a simple silly scary show, yet when the secret unfolds at the end. everything seemed so ingenious. The show…or at least, the plot…is simply genious. Rogue Pictures? I’ll take note of their upcoming shows (if any).

The DnD session I’ve hosted thus far is going pretty well. Only 2 sessions so far though. 1st was pretty good imo. 2nd was a bit sloppy than the first because we are late and I was too caught up with DDO to think of a good plot, so I relied on ‘delaying’ the plot. Still good fun though, I love party members interacting with each other.

I tried to call some to join my session…but I had to limit who I have to call too because of limited space. Maximum is 6, I already have 4: Dom, Zili, John and Yuzhang. They’re…er…relationship between each other have been…er…’good’. Lol. Maybe I should’ve used the word ‘interesting’. Next session MIGHT be cancelled UNLESS we can a few more to join, because Dom can’t make it. I don’t think I’d be interested in DMing 3 people. Way too few.

The future looks very good for me as there are so many games that are on my hands compared to pre-project:-
- Animal Crossing (just got it)
- Oblivion
- DDO
- CoV (possible)
-Civilization 4
-CVS2
-Melty Blood
-Kingdom Hearts 2

god so many games upcoming for me and Oblivion status is currently 97%!

So anyways, here are a very screenies from DDO as I’ve played thus far.

HDTV Xbox 360 DOA4 Competition @ Liang Court!

March 19, 2006

Well, despite all that I have said about not going a day ago, I went anyway. I felt…really…lethargic the whole day; lack of sleep, but still I performed pretty well for one who haven’t touched DOA for a long time and haven’t known the exact movelist for every character.

The competition was set to round robin and the entire event took about 6-7 hours.

My first match was with a guy called … well, I can’t remember his nick, but he uses Kokoro. I wanted to use Ayane, but had no confidence whatsoever. I always have no confidence using Ayane lol, so I picked Christie. Besides, his Kokoro is trashing my Ayane everywhere before the competition started. My Christie was powerful, but not enough to win the thin margin at the final round. I bet one poke would’ve finished him. Too bad he poked me first -.-

I can’t remember who I fought with next. There were…8-9 matches, I remember I lost 4 of them, won 5. The results totally don’t make sense at all, with the exception of Tetra. It just don’t make sense at all. It’s like one huge scissors, paper, stone.

All I remember that there were two Eins. I won one, lost one. Funny, I lost to the ‘lousier’ Ein, but beat the other, who won the ‘lousier’ Ein. See what I mean? Anyway, Ein should be nerfed. His launchers are wayyyy overpowered. It’s friggin’ one hit! You know how much work other characters have to do before they lift you? One of the Ein (the ‘better’ one) was nicknamed ‘Prophet’. He and I tied for 4th place, but no one cared LOL.

There was a Jann Lee, pretty decent player imo, but not good enough. He owned me at that map with four sides. It’s retarded, the wrestling ring should not bounce at the wall =/ but anyway, it’s all for the good of fun.

There was also a Hayabusa user. He’s good, but I find him predictable. Some people dont. His Hayabusa is pretty scary once he knocks me down. He’ll just backflip and go into teleport stance. From there, it’s a super guessing game to his favour. jyfly-something was his nick I think.

There was this Hitomi I played with. I remember my hands are freezing after I held the coke from Mac for too long. I beat him anyway, it was easy giving him habits. However, if you don’t know how to put habits into your opponent’s hands, his Hito.mi will kill you. He’s a pretty good Hitomi player imho. I remember his nick is P[A]GE

And of course not forgetting our 2nd place Kirby, whom everyone was cursing for him to lose. When I sparred with him, I totally schooled him with my Ayane (he was using the masked woman). When the match start however, I didn’t pick Ayane because Ayane was his main. He picked Ayane. His Ayane is very good. I lost to him on the 3rd round because of his crazy mixup strings. With my old spider psychic sense, I would’ve countered it. Come to think of it, I didn’t really counter much today. REAL counters I mean, not those wake up ones. The first two match was fun tho. I totally pwned him at the first, he totally pwned me at the second. liek 3-0 pwnage. Good laugh.

*thinks*
The last guy I remembered playing was my final match: Tetra. He have been using Hayate for 3 matches, Kokoro and Christie for 1 and for me I got special treatment: Ayane. Ayane is his best in DOAU.

There was once his Hayate was totally scaring everyone. He simply hit his opponent over the obstacle, teleport to his back, hit over, teleport, hit over, teleport, hit over. I think the only way to counter that is slow escape. It’s the most frightening thing I ever see Hayate do. I thought his combo from DOA3 is lame enough.

His Ayane is plain crazy. I dunno if he was giving me special treatment or what because he never fought me before. His Ayane is damn good =/

But i won him one fight ^_^ yay!

Law of Digital Creation

March 10, 2006

Designers hate it when they can draw but can’t link things together.
Technical people hate it when they can link things together but can’t draw.
And we both hate each other for what we can do.
But what we hate most are those who can do both.

This sucks, my design is ready and my codes are (always) ready to a blogskin change…just…can’t draw =/

WOOT IT’S OVER!!!

March 8, 2006

3 weeks project is over! And a pretty successful one at that! I didn’t expect to beat the other team seriously, considering that they have better overall programmers and one more member than us. I’m seriously surprised that they didn’t have a product that is better than ours considering that they always seemed to be ahead all the while.

My team sort of went overdrive at the last 3 days, completing all there is needed. I went OT during those three days and Jian Wei is eagarly wanting to do high score cookies. So our game, in the end, looks more or less functional. The points Class I created is pretty flawless as far as I know, and easier to punch in the coords than the other team.

I think my team did really well. Mr Danny Koh was “pleasently surprised” three times over! Each for one member! I feel, imho, that the killer was the high score that jian wei did last minute. It’s probably the one that shifted the favour from the other team to us. Of course, I’m very happy at the results. I feel our game have lots of advantages compared to the other team after seeing their so-called “final product”.

1) No Tweening…all animation done by us are all coded in actionscript.
2) Wave detecting etc is considered early, and (maybe) completely flawless. The other team has tons of problems with the wave. Good thing I play these games often enough to know the conditions needed for the collision detection.
3) Classes are used…heck this is something small, but I’ll say it anyway lol.
4) High Score is IN!!!
5) Voices and animations happen when they are supposed to…I find it odd about this though. The other team is getting all the love from the designers and yet produce more things that the designers don’t want than me.
6) Dancers are animated…I dunno why the other team’s is not. Probably theirs is too laggy so that removed the animations.
7) Easier to allocate points than the other team. We just use 1,2,3,4s, the other team you have to punch in the actual coordinates.

Okay, here’s some quotes that made me really confident during the last week :)

Danny Koh (TD hand-in): “I’m pleased with your team’s progress, really. I didn’t expect the three of you to do this much.”
Danny Koh: “I’m pleasently surprised!”
Danny Koh : “What? Andy solved that (rotation bug)?…I’m pleasently surprised!”
Danny Koh: “Wait, those are cookies in the high score?? Jian Wei did it?!…wow, I’m pleasently surprised.”
Danny Koh: “So the points are detecting the line? That’s interesting, show me how you do it.”
Robin: “Okay, confirm taking yours for presentation liao. Confirm. Other team cannot play one.”
Robin: “Aiya why you never communicate much with us =(“
Danny Koh: “It seemed that your team has many more functionalities than the other team…I’m pleasently surprised”.

Cheers everyone, have a great holiday :D
