Work, Fun, and Finally…Deadline is Nigh!

July 28, 2006

I don’t know whether I should feel happy or not about deadlines now. Usually I would feel really worried and stuff but this time I’m looking into the huge break we’ll be having. I’m actually feeling happy about finishing the work instead of submitting it…hmm or was I always like that? I can’t remember…

Oh yes, Bugis is being renovated (a part of it anyway) so they shifted every machine. Everything seemed soooooo much more organized now; Street fighter in one row, KoF in another, Sports game in the other. GGXX is right smack into the middle of KOF…not that I care much anyway, GGXX standard in sg is waaaaay above mine. Anyway, the best thing is that the CVS2 machine is shifted to a much much much cooler spot. Last Saturday was really really fun, so fun that if I were to type what happened and what I felt there, it would take like my entire blog space for a month and I’m too lazy to do that anyways.

Back to the present, I’ve been playing around with Warhammer 40k (the tabletop) . It seemed really really fun to play, but it’s gonna take a lot of investing. I’m currently tihnking about it though :)

sidenote: I’m supposed to flame and rant about designers but since they made me happy for now, I’ll let it pass.

July 16, 2006

It’s been a long month. I feel that I’m regaining a bit of my life back having found time to play games and search things (non-code related) on the net. I don’t care much about this semester anymore. It’s been a gruesome one. Poor management at early part of the GDT, juggling DirectX, doing Networking shit on Java (I hate doing networking), endless criticisms from the Design and GDT modules about our work. I’m getting seriously sick of it. I’ve been working my arse to the end of the world only to get critisized again and again. Then again, it was partially my fault for not organizing my team. Times like these always make me glad that there are teams out there that suffer a worse fate (Nick’s team for example…forced to solo the entire project). The good thing is that I have an MMO; Everquest, to make me happy.

Grades? Fuck I don’t care anymore. This will probably be my worst semester GPA ever and it is probably everyone’s worst. All I care is a pass for GDT and GDD. The GDT and GDD module are both equally silly, shitty and stupid. In GDT, we are suppose to ‘create a game’ over 17 weeks. Yet people with mentality like “Let’s hit this week’s target as requested by the teacher, show him and get the grade. I don’t give a fucking care about creating a game.” are getting the B’s and A’s while people who actually look at the game as a whole and want to improvise every codes to their game liking are getting D’s and C’s because…hey we are not meeting the target. It’s just…mind boggling…do devs work under idiots who goes “gimme a main menu, I don’t care wtf it looks like or works like just gimme a frekin’ menu”.

GDD is the same. I don’t know why Mr Lim looks at our game and goes “It still looks like pong”. Heck any lecturer for that matter. Our team already stated that our game will be based on the old time classic “Pong”. Of course it will look like pong. Look at Rudy’s group, it looks like “Pong” too, only with the camera view facing ‘tennis-style’ instead of Pong’s sideline view. Why aren’t they getting criticized? Oh because they stated that they are making a tennis game! Wtf Pong with the intension of revamping Pong is not okay but Pong with the intension of making Tennis is okay? I’ve never heard of such bullcrap in my life.

Is Pong a taboo word? There is only one game of Pong in the world, no one improved on the game. Alleyway probably arrived from Pong. Tennis games probably use Pong as a base. I also played a bunch of random games on my gameboy with pong engine in it but nothing like Pong. So why can’t we…just use pong engine, to make pong and add lots of stuffs in it? Worms 3D anyone? Look at DnD. Name me 5 games that uses DnD as a base to make DnD games. BG, BG2, IWD, IWD2, PS:T, FO, FO2, FO:T, FO:BOS, Menzobarrenzan, POR, ToEE, NWN, DDO and soon, NWN2. There are probably more too. Did anyone complain? No. So what the fuck is wrong with making another Pong? No one created another Pong before. Everyone created another DnD game, Mario game, Kirby game etc. No one complained when Tekken took VF’s 3D fighting game ideas.

I guess I have enough. Now I’m just gonna sit and wait for Week 17 to arrive. 3 Weeks project is nigh and I’m jumping ship to YC’s team of goons. I just hope everything goes well, for once in this semester.

PS I think Pirates of the Carribean is stolen from Secret of Monkey Island series.- Both have highly charismatic main characters (tho in a very different way)
- Both have undead captains captaining a crew of undeads
- Both have a voodoo lady (PotC2 has)- Both have damsels hardly in distress
- Both take place in the Carribean
- Both are…”Disney-funny”, though PotC has it’s serious side…SoMI is so warpped up.

4:40am.

A Story In Everquest #1

July 2, 2006

Hello Kids! Today I’m going to tell you all about a story called “The KS’er and the Giant”. Once upon a time, in the great plains of West Commonlands, a party of people were grouping together near an orc camp to slayer all orcs for the good of all mankind (or ogre/trollkind). After many failures in their crusade to Befallen, the party decided to hunt a simple foe: Orcs.

After killing a few orcs, a KS’er by the name of “Raradornn” came to ’steal’ our kills, imploding and exploding them to crisps while we were fighting them and claiming that the kills are his own and giving no credit to us. (In game terms, that faggot stole our exp by outnuking us. We are lacking in dps but exp is flowing well).

So, our brave leader of the troupe, a hearty Ogre by the name of “Bubbah” got so mad that he came out with a plan: He’s going to lure Hill Giants to kill the mage. (see the little human with white hair? That’s Rara)

Hill Giants were a feared being in the West Commonlands. They roam and every place possible and despite their size, they are able to sneak up behind groups without the members noticing and destroy them. We had our share of angry hill giants before we came and we developed a phobia for them (I’m serious here, a REAL phobia). But Bubbah be brave and decided to sacrafice himself to destroy the mage:

And he was successful in eliminating the mage, but he died in the process;

Everyone cheered as the giant walked away:

As you can see here, the mage was obviously not happy and decide to do the same to us.

A closer look at his corpse ^_^ ->

I thought this was Rara’s first attempt at destroying us, but it so happens to be a spawn of HG that was scripted to move across the orc camp. You should know why we are scared of them now.

Rara’s first attempt at destroying us; the giant chased the shaman who had “Spirit of Wolf” on so the shaman manage to escape due to his speed and everyone wasn’t affected.

From this screenshot to the next, Rara decided to log off and everything was fine for awhile. Babbuh left and we invited and kicked a few more members as they come and go. An hour later (in real life) Raradornn came back and started to KS us again. This happened for 30 mins and several /tells to him to “get the f* off” which was replied with “stfu”. I took the best screenshot in my life after that 30 mins:

In case you didn’t know, in the bottom screenshot, Rara was not aware of the Hill Giant yet. He wasn’t running away as this screenshot looked like he was doing. See that’ orc in front of him? He’s gonna loot it.

If you noticed the last emote from last screenshot, our troll shaman waved at him, supposedly to distract him. He was looking and I was disappointed that I didn’t manage to take a screenshot when he was in looting position, because he died way too fast:
We cheered. Again. YAY!

And yep, the KS’er didn’t return.
End of story.
I would like to thank Rara for being an idiot,
my guild mates,
my group mates,
my playlist,
and of course, the Hill Giants

for making this group fun, happening and…yeah just pure fun.

July 1, 2006

I managed to find the willpower to rip my soul off Everquest to update my blog. As EQ is back to my life, I’m probably going out less and updating less, but of course, if my willpower is as good as now, I’ll do them. I’m now settled in The Sleeper with my new Cleric whore known as “Ellune”. I swear to god this name have NOTHING to do with the Night Elf goddess Elune. I thought of the name in my friggin bed a day before Progession servers were released.

IT HAS NO LINK WITH THE FUCKING BITCH GODDESS ELUNE.
IT HAS NO LINK WITH THE FUCKING BITCH GODDESS ELUNE.
IT HAS NO LINK WITH THE FUCKING BITCH GODDESS ELUNE.
IT HAS NO LINK WITH THE FUCKING BITCH GODDESS ELUNE.
IT HAS NO LINK WITH THE FUCKING BITCH GODDESS ELUNE.

Get that in your head and hopefully by reading this blog, I would get less /t Ellune “Do you play WoW? Your character is named after the goddess Elune”. This is a name I proudly thought out of myself. Damn you blizzard.

I’ve been playing a LOT less games other than EQ ever since EQ came back. There was a point of time I feel really tired and bored and I got afraid that I AM bored of EQ. Happens that my bodily system could not handle starring at computers at a certain posture. That’s what’s making me tired. Otherwise I’m still burning. Level 9 now!

Progression server is insane. Greater Faydark 5 hours after release has 500+ people in the SAME zone. Fucking incredible. The players practically outnumber the mob spawns. I’ve NEVER seen that happen before. I’ve never seen 6 people ganging on a level 1 wasp drone.
For those not playing or not in Greater Faydark, here’s a screenshot of what it’s like in Greater Faydark in a less populated server called “The Sleeper”. It has 100 people at the time this screenie was taken:

This place was one called orc hill because it is probably the wonderful point where 80% of the orcs walk through, has good open space, and clear sight to many mobs. Due to the ridiculous amount of training, and given the fact that some of us are not used to not being twinked, we Elves of Faydark temporarily renamed this camp spot as ‘Corpse Hill’ :

Welcome to Everquest!
You are in OUR world now!
