Hayate No Gotoku??

August 5, 2009

I finally decided to watch Hayate No Gotoku, after hearing about it several several times. I had no clue what is it about and I can’t really bring myself to watch something which I have no clue about (aka I always have something else better to do).

So I watched. It’s a Love/Comedy genre, with a fuckton of anime/game references. I always liked Love/Comedy genre, since it mostly involves two idiots trying to get together in some strange way. The latter reason obviously appeals to me; it’s the reason I watched and liked Lucky Star. This kind of anime usually brings about randomness, calling the /b/tard in me.

So now it has, what, 52 episodes and already 18 episodes into the second season. Looks like I missed alot in the anime world. I haven’t even watched Soul Eater, Beserk, and many others either.

If anyone got any of these anime, feel free to send me a message. Examples include Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh.

While I’m at the topic of anime, I can’t seem to find (or rather, I’m lazy to find) good shonen animes (Naruto, Bleach, Gundam series, etc). Again, feel free to inform me about it.

Full Metal Alchemist

August 1, 2009

I just realized one week ago that I haven’t been following the FMA manga. So I went ahead to read it. What can I say? Now up til chapter 97, it hasn’t disappointed me one bit. It could ever well be my favorite manga of all time…

On the side note, I need to start cleaning up the blog abit. The categories are either overused, or under utilized.

wtf Haruhi

July 17, 2009

Wtf Haruhi 2 got like 3 episodes basing on Endless Summer. They are all the same, will different angles and visuals. Are they on budget or something?

Impromptu Blazblue tourney vids are up here.
I need to change my playstyle. I’m obviously fucking humji turtle.

Piano and animes

June 1, 2009

I’ve finally dusted away the…dust (what’s happening to my english) on my piano, finally finding myself the will to play every weekend. There’s a lot of songs I really want to play atm, and I must admit I’m damn fucking rusty. I don’t think I can even remember playing a complete song without mistakes (I take mistakes damn harshly).

I’ve been watching animes again. Haruhi 2, FMA: Brotherhood, and even old ones like Dokuro-chan, Gintama and Blood. K-On is a pretty nice show imo. It’s like Macross Frontier; you only watch it for the insert songs.

On the side note, there are a bunch of games I haven’t reviewed yet. I’ll just briefly go through them:

GTA:Chinatown Wars – What GTA4 could’ve been. If Gamespot rate GTA4 as a 10/10 game (which is rubbish), I would rate it a 15/10. It’s a solid game, with side missions which is not redundant to do. If you remember when I reviewed about GTA4, I mentioned that it has too much gimmicks and unnecessary side jobs that are not worth the money.

Soma Bringer – Think MMO. Actually, think D2.

Rock Band Unplugged – It’s four buttons BUT has instrument switching. The mechanics is genius. And best of all, I’m playing expert and I don’t feel it’s a mashing game (unlike DJMAX series).

On the side note, Josh Anime Music website has K-on piano sheet musics. He uploaded himself playing and they all sound very good :)

Thanks to karlson for informing me.

Episode was pretty awesome, was almost exactly as I imagined when I read the light novel (translated of course) @ Baka Tsuki.

Anime Festival Asia 08 recap

November 23, 2008

This is probably the best weekend I spent since my NS started. To be honest, when I went I only went for 2 things: Mayn and SF4 competition.

On 22nd, I just queued up for the 2 day pass ticket and quickly entered Suntec City Convention Hall 403/404. I wasn’t expecting much out of Saturday. I thought I didn’t know much of Ichirou Mizuki’s (aka Aniki) songs since I don’t really know what on earth is Kamen Rider and stuff. The only song I recognize are from the Mazinger Z series.

So I went, played a few $1 (ouch) Melty Blood games, and watch the group SF4 competition matches. Only thing that I find notable is Weitian bringing Simon to the Loser’s Bracket.

There were all kinds of booths…Hexaproject, Digipen, Bandai, Takashimaya, Odex, KKnM, Manga Kissa…it’s quite a nice array actually. I must say I would be expecting more, but hey one shouldn’t be too greedy.

So I waited with John until Aniki’s concert. I wasn’t prepared for what’s about to come. Aniki is THE King. There’s something about the way he sings that makes you…燃える。 I didn’t know he sings Voltron or the Shin Getter Robo OPs. It is truely an experience that one cannot really express in words. You can feel the passion in his singing really.

On the 23rd (that’s today), I arrived just in time to see Jianhui barely losing to Baehoon with his Balrog. Mayn is a great singer, but too bad she only sang like 5 songs. And she have to sing Youhei…yucks. Oh ya, I forgot to mention (because I probably instinctively remove it from memory) about the cosplay comepetition. English dubs scares me. I mean, people actually watch English dubs? It’s so damn unnatural most of the time. It pains me to hear the Hitman Reborn cosplayer shouting “TO THE EXTREME!!!” out loud and hundreds of people clapping to it. It’s just not right to me.

The most memorable thing about AFA08 to me is undoubtedly Aniki. I hope JAM project comes over soon…fat hope but one can dream right?

Transformers, the best 2007 movie?

June 30, 2007

I just watched the Transformers movie just yesterday and it turned out to be probably the most unnecessary-scene-filled movie I ever saw. It has it’s good parts, having humor catered to geeks like me, funny quotes and stuff. The movie is just like every other movie out there, with action, romance, love and twists; what I believed crippled what was supposed to be a great movie.

I don’t really claim to be a Transformers fan, but it is what I grew up on so I’ll be judging it based on that and not just on the movie. How can I? If I want to judge something based on the movie itself, they might as well make a brand new IP. It’s like Juggernaut from X-men who looked like a whim and does not seem to recognize Xavier as his own brother…I don’t think fans like that.

I only managed to recognize Optimus Prime when he transform because of his familiar color scheme and the fact that he has two car window breasts. The rest I couldn’t really recognize them. Bumblebee is recognizable only because he is a yellow car with black strips and has some bee-like accessory hanging at the car’s rear view mirror. Otherwise, he looked like scrap metal, just like the rest. Plus, Bumblebee is supposed to be a mini or something, definitely not a sports car. Starscream looked very alike to Megatron. I keep confusing them both throughout the movie.

Every fighting scene looked very well done, except for that fact that I couldn’t see what’s happening. Imagine two robots, both 80% silver-scrap-metal color, and random parts about, duking it out. I can’t see shit man. I think the Starscream’s aerial dogfight is the best, mostly because I can see what’s going on.

There’s that scene with a half-body Bumblebee being dragged around on a pickup truck…I think everyone knows it’s supposed to be a scene about friendship etc etc, but wtf I can’t see what’s going on. Okay, bumblebee is being dragged around shooting at random stuff…wtf? The significance dropped during the entire scene.

The worst is probably the anti-climatic ending with Megatron getting killed by the Allspark which he sought after for so long. Megatron went like “gimme gimme”, he absorbed the Allspark and just died gg no re. He just died. Afterwards we were presented of the scene of a happy ending, sunset over the horizon, main character kissing main character’s girlfriend, Optimus NARRATING the entire scene. Does anyone know what happened to the cool fat nigga and the other girl? I thought they were supposed to play a really significant part of the show! They did NOTHING. Wtf? IF I try to remember, they disappeared at the 3/4 part of the scene.

It could really be done better all in all.
